Gradara Castle
Gradara Castle, a quintessential example of medieval military architecture, stands majestically on a hill in the Marche region. The fortress is protected by two circuits of walls, the outermost one extending for almost 800 meters, making it one of the most impressive in the area. The main keep, or 'Mastio', is the oldest part of the castle and offers stunning views. Inside the castle, visitors can explore the elegantly furnished rooms, including the 'Camera di Francesca,' which is said to be the setting for the tragic love story of Paolo Malatesta and Francesca da Rimini. Key monuments include the Clock Tower and the Torture Room. The town of Gradara itself is a charming medieval village with aristocratic palaces like the Palazzo Rubini Vesin. Throughout the year, Gradara hosts numerous events, most notably the 'Siege of the Castle' historical reenactment in July and 'The Magic Castle' festival in August. Nearby attractions include the coastal city of Cattolica, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and the beautiful beaches of the Adriatic Riviera.
